Time for lunch

A pair of playful and inquisitive North American river otters investigate a submerged tree snag.

They spiral around each other in a graceful underwater ballet. The form of the tree repeats and reinforces the composition of the sculpture.

Peering into the hollow, the female otter can see a crayfish. Observant children will find many of the otter's natural food items hidden in the shelter of the snag. Sunfish, mussels, snails, crayfish and crabs are all depicted with the same care and anatomical accuracy as the otters.
